George Raymond Bonney

Husband, Father, Band Drummer
September 1, 1909 - April 9, 1984

Marching With A Different Drummer

George was born in Cripple Creek, Colorado. Also known as Ray, he was first son of George W. Bonney and Nellie Josephine Weeks Bonney. He did not finish high school, but was a talented musician who played the marimba and the drums. During the depression, he played with the Clem Masonair and his Star Dusters band whenever they could find jobs. Raymond also played with the Denver and Rio Grande band.

He worked at Montgomery Ward's and was laid off one Christmas Eve. When jobs were difficult to find and war work was beginning to surface, he joined the Army Reserve and served as a Sergeant. He was inducted into the Army and was sent to Rantoul, Illinois and spent the war years in Italy, and Goose Bay Labrador. He married Marie Kast. The family remembered him at Christmas by posing with his photo for a group shot.

Ray and Marie had two children, Alan Ray Bonney and Marsha Marie Bonney.
