Saturday Evening, June 17, 2006 - 7:00 PM

Welcome, or welcome back!

Can you guess, based on a survey of 100 people, what a man who's going to a class reunion worries about? I think it's interesting that

  • 53% are concerned about their hairline.
  • 33% about their weight
  • 7% about their profession
  • and 3% about their wife or date.
  • At this reunion, I would like to stress that WE DON'T CARE ABOUT ANY OF THAT! We're just here to have fun. If you weren't here last night, I'm sorry. You missed a great time. But there is a lot of excitement scheduled for tonight, too.

    Toast

    To us
    More than we were,
    Better than we are,
    All that we imagined.

    SN1. Bonney Bott.

    Abandoned Project

I'd like to quickly tell you all about a project I had planned for this reunion, but the efforts fell through. I don't know how many of you saw the movie "Calendar Girls", but the movie gave me an idea for a project of an 18 month class calendar that would have started next month and gone through the end of 2007.

It was to portray Class of '66 volunteers in nude poses, with strategically placed props so as to protect our dignity and not embarrass our families or employers. Each month's photo shot was to be in good taste, with possibly a group composite for the two Decembers. Each volunteer would be responsible for providing their own approved pose.

I think it would have been fun, as I already had some volunteers lined up. And, we had a list of "target" volunteers!

There was also a list of suggested names that included:

  • Featherless Cardinals
  • Cardinals in the Buff...Class of '66
  • Class of '66...Born to be Wild...What Happened??!!
  • '66 Boomer Dates
  • Valley Groan (that's G R O A N)
  • Making the Time of Our '66 Lives
  • Class of '66...Ageing's Not for Sissies!
  • and
  • 40 Years of Excellence
  • We were avoiding using Harlingen High School in the name to avoid possible law suits! Maybe next time we could complete the project and just sell the calendars to earn door prize money for the next reunion. Or maybe even to pay for the whole event!

    Group Photos

Again, as we did this morning, we'll gather for Group Photos of everyone here. Then, guests will return to their tables while we take Class Photos. Patsy Kendall Stroud and her husband Rich are our photo coordinators. Please pay attention to their directions so we can do this quickly and efficiently. When we finish, be seated so we can eat sooner.

    Goodbye Toast

    I have a final toast.
    May we live as intended,
    in a world at peace,
with awareness of the beauty in every sunset,
    every flower's unfolding petals,
    every baby's smile,
    and every wonderful, astonishing, miraculous
    beat of our hearts.

Good night friends. Please try to keep in touch.
