Friday Night Luau Buffet - June 16 - 7:00 PM-1:00 AM

Welcome

Welcome to the first night of our 40th class reunion.

FN1. It's REUNION TIME!

Our theme for this weekend is "Return to Greatness and Riches!" with the hope that we will all share our greatness, riches, friendship, love, truth, and destiny.

You may ask what greatness we have. We have greatness of character and the greatness of rising to the highest mountaintop from the lowest valley. Greatness may be obtained by sharing your riches.

Richness is often measured by experiences. There is the richness of infinitely precious things that cannot be taken away from you. Richness comes with truth and honesty. Your good name is your jewel of richness.

Contentment is the realization of greatness and riches and avoiding regrets.

As Ronald Reagan said, "You and I have a rendezvous with destiny." We are all here together now

  • to share our relationships of friendship and love.
  • to maintain our friendships in the face of fortune, good or bad.
  • to value new and long-time friends.

    FN6. Memorabilia table.

It's my goal that everyone has a GREAT time here. By the end of THIS WEEKEND, no one will go away saying, "I don't know who that person was! They just sat in the corner all night," or "No, I didn't see her there. I didn't know she planned to come."

Reunions often have a bad reputation when portrayed on TV or in the movies. I'm striving to squelch the feelings expressed in the quote, "A friend is someone who stabs you in the front." I'd rather our group have feelings like, "Wow! That was fun. What have I been missing all these years?"

To facilitate that everyone has fun, I'd like to point out that we have a cash bar for tonight and tomorrow night.

FN7. We are GREAT! We are RICH! We're the Class of '66!

    Motto

      What's our Motto?

We ARE great and we ARE rich.
      We're the class of '66!

    Alma Mater

Sara Johnson Lacy will lead us as we sing the Harlingen High School Alma Mater. If you don't remember the words, look at the agenda in your booklet.

There's a feeling good and true,
And it's from our hearts to you,
As we give a toast to thee,
      May you ever happy be,
And though far from here we roam
We will always call you home,
It's the place we love the best,
      Dear ole H H S!"

    FN8. Sara Johnson Lacy.

FN9. Sara leads us singing the Alma Matter.

    Toast

Now I'd like you to lift your glasses for a toast.

May what you see in the mirror delight you,   and what others see in you delight them.

    FN10. Bonney Bott.

    Thanks

Before we get started with activities, I'd like to give credit to the people who have helped when I asked them. Please stand when I call your name.

  • David McCall, Mike Ferguson, Tony Bennett, and Jay Meade for getting their wonderful band, the Malibus, back together and for providing the sound system.
  • Louise Davis Moore for the graduation memorabilia.
  • Mike Harris and Kathy Winter Harris for setting up a nostalgic display.
  • Patsy Kendall Stroud and Rich Stroud for coordinating our group photos.
  • Mary Ann Nowlin Farmer for getting some free color printing for us.
  • Donna Shearer for helping with the games and any other things I've asked her to do.
  • Ken (Chip) Sherman for helping with the games.
  • Karen Soultaire Bacher for helping with the packets and for proof reading.
  • John Topp and Darlene Topp for setting up a nostalgic display.
  • George Weber for helping with the music.
  • Pam Walker for helping with the packets.
  • Ronnie Wittenbach for his connections to help us get firm dates for the reunion.

  • Sara Johnson Lacey for
    writing the "In Remembrance"
    page for the booklet.

  • Raymond Lisauckis for writing
    the welcome page, "A Love
    Letter"
    for the booklet.

  • In their packet the souvenir bookmarks have red and white ribbons rather than just red. I'd also like to thank:

  • Everyone who's taking a shift to distribute registration packets.
  • Everyone who donated a door prize.
  • I'd also like to thank anyone whom I have forgotten! Thank you all so much for your help.

  • Group Photos

Before everyone drools food on themselves, we'll gather for Group Photos of everyone here. Then, guests will return to their tables while we take Class Photos.

Patsy Kendall Stroud and her husband Rich are coordinating the photos. Please pay attention to their direction so we can do this quickly and efficiently.

    Harlingen Report

I thought it would be nice to have Mike Harris briefly give a run down of what businesses are still open since we graduated, which are newly significant, and when or why some have closed down over the years...to refresh our memories and update those who live elsewhere.

If you need more information after he finishes, you can chat with him later.

    FN20. Time's up!

    Next

    Bingo Card

Many of you know that I like to play games. If you don't, now's the time for you to moan and suck it up. The games that have been planned are designed to enrich our gathering this weekend.

On your table you will find some green HHS Bingo cards. Please distribute one to each person, then write your name at the top. All squares must be filled with a signature of someone else in the room. Find a person here who fits the category and have them sign that square. They can only sign 1 square on each person's card. We will take 10 minutes...for bingo players, this is the equivalent of a black out bingo.

    Announcements

Each table has a number. This will be your number for this evening. In a minute, starting with Table #1, you are to come up to the microphone and introduce yourself to others in the room. Please give your name, where you've traveled from, and how many children or grandchildren you have. You may also provide any other information you can reveal in 5 seconds, then return to your table.

Table Karaoke and Autograph Souvenir Books

I hope you're good at multitasking. While we're doing this next activity, we'll also be signing Autograph books. Bring your books again tomorrow morning and tomorrow night to catch people who may not be here tonight.

The next "fun" thing we have is Table Karaoke. We don't have a full karaoke setup, so you and your "tablemates" should quickly select a song from the book on your table for the group to sing. Then bring your song book and your group up front to start.

Let me know when your Table is ready. After you've finished singing, you can work on autographs with people at the tables who have already performed. I didn't schedule much time for this, so we need to do it quickly or continue through the evening.

    When to Come Back

I hope you have a good time. Breakfast is served at 8:30 in the morning. We will take more Group Photos, and have more door prize drawings. We have this room for visiting until 1:00 AM, so please stay and visit or dance if you'd like.

Some people plan to gather to walk on the beach at sunrise. That would be at 6:30 in the morning. If you want company, meet at the pool with the waterfall, and be on time.

Remember to bring your breakfast meal ticket and your autograph book in the morning. Good night.
