Caribbean Cruise

The ship docked at 9:00 in the morning at Montego Bay, Jamaica. John and Debbie planned to stay aboard and spent time in the solarium by the adult pool, while the rest of us travelers went ashore. By this time, John had eaten most of his caramels, and Debbie mentioned having to play hide and seek with hers so John wouldn't eat all of them, too. I think he kept finding them and she kept moving them.

Yes, this was another shopping day for souvenirs and I was tasked to return with coffee beans! Katie was in search of jerk seasoning for Jamaican flavored cooking, but I think she filled up her big pink bag with a lot more than that. Among her stuff was a CD or two with island reggae music. Katie and I separated in our shopping from Bruce and Page.

We were successful in our endeavor. Katie found her seasoning and several other gift items. I wanted to purchase Blue Mountain coffee, which I found in the first store we stopped in, where the sales person informed us there were four or five brands of Blue Mountain coffee. Of course, the one he sold was the best. A couple of stores later, they had a different brand of Blue Mountain coffee, which they assured me was the best. And guess what? Another store had a different brand that was the very best. After purchasing coffee in the first store, I bought in both of the others, too. I was getting it for my friend, Lesley, who usually travels with me, so I thought I'd let her do her own taste test! When finished, we headed toward Margaritaville for a bite of lunch. On our way, we met up with Bruce and Page, who joined us there. Have I mentioned this cruise was during Spring Break. Well, you can imagine how crowded and how loud this place was. We wandered to a patio as far from the band as we could get and could hear them plenty well!

Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville.

I know Bruce and Katie were after margaritas in addition to food, while Page was in search of a Red Stripe beer. Abracadabra! You all could have come, too.

The drinks had arrived and our food order placed when a steady shower came down on us on the patio. Katie was in a position to see a covered empty table and grabbed it. The waitress found us to serve our food, and after eating onion rings and nachos, we caught the Hot Spot Shuttle back to the dock. And guess what was there. More shopping! Page and Katie took a right toward the shops they had missed on our way to town.

Bruce and I headed toward the ship, me with the intention of swimming again, but I don't think I made it out of the room until after we were dressed for dinner. Katie had arrived about 4:30 and asked, "Bonney, do you want me to plug in the curling iron?" Although we were late, we beat the others to dinner!

I think this was the night that my slight sunburn from Cozumel started to peel, so I didn't use makeup except for lipstick. What a timesaver that was! Notice, so far I have no pictures from that night, either!

The dinner specialty was Italian food. In addition, the waiters put on a short show by marching around the room and singing "O Sole Mio" while we diners slung our cloth napkins in circles overhead.

After we ate, Katie and I stopped to pose for another photo, hoping to come up with a few good ones.

When on the ship, we spent some of our down time (whenever that was) at the pizza cafe (like we needed to eat more) that we could see from our room, across the Promenade. Our room is kind of where the spotlights are above the red decoration. From there, we could see the pizza cafe (just after the phone boothon the left) and Ben and Jerry's (below the pink decoration in the photo below. The Pig and Whistle Pub is under the green decoration on the right.

It appeared that the lighting changed from daytime to night because of the translucent ceiling over the Promenade.

We could see a telephone booth at the bottom left of the photo. It had a phone that could be used with credit cards or the ship card, I didn't look inside to see which, but I thought it was cute.

I was still getting only three to six hours of sleep a night, so I was among the walking dead at this point. There was just no spring left in this chicken. Katie, and Page went to see the "Music in Motion" show at 8:30 after we ate and thought it was good. I don't know if Debbie went too, but I'm pretty sure John and Bruce bailed on this one.

Our towel critter was either a bat or a flying Snoopy dog. The jury is still out here.

A 70s Disco Street Party started at 9:45 pm on the Promenade downstairs from our room. I watched from our window! Katie was down there somewhere taking it all in.
