I almost enjoy our days at sea as much as those with stops and shore tours. For one
thing, I can sleep in and arrive at the Windjammer for brunch...the best of both
worlds, breakfast and lunch.
Debbie had signed up for a qualifying round of a slot tournament, so Cindy and I
decided to do the same. We were in different rounds and on different machines.
Debbie started in round two, tappying her spin button as fast as she could for five minutes.
In order to qualify in the top 20 for all the qualifying rounds, we were guessing
a score of at least 3000 points was necessary, probably 4000. I think she was barely hugging 2000
points when the end came.
Next, Cindy gave it a try for her five minutes, using her two-handed typrwriter
technique to push her spin button. No luck here, either.
My turn was in the fourth round and I pelted the button as Debbie and
Cindy cheered me on. Still no luck.
During the time between rounds, Debbie had signed up for round five. Nada here,
either.
Keep in mind we each had paid $25 for our entry fee. Thinking back on the situation,
it would have been better if we had just bet on who could guess the time closest
to when the captain would
make the next announcement, and one of us would have won the $100 that now belongs
to the casino.
Debbie had stopped to get us all Free tickets to the ics skating show, "Ice Under
the Big Top". Yes, there's an ice rink onboard and the show was excellent. But since
photos weren't allowed, I've got nothing to show here.
This first night At Sea was also our first of two Formal Dinners.

After dinner and a gulped down dessert, we rushed to the other end of the ship
in time to watch a tribute group to the Temptations perform. They
were good, but we might have enjoyed them more if we hadn't been in the hot nosebleed
section of the theater.

I think it was after this entertainment that we had our first opportunity to see John and Debbie's
Royal Suite. It was impresssive. Debbie was thrilled because it was even bigger
than the Royal Suite on Mariner's sister ship, the Voyager of the Seas. Yes, that's a baby grand
player piano in the midle of the suite.

There was a huge balcony perfect for our cigar smokers. |
Obviously the Royal Suite became the unofficial meeting place for our group.
