Day 9 of Cruise - Tallinn, Estonia
|
Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, is one of the oldest cities on the Baltic Sea,
founded in 1154. Its Old Town has remained remarkably unchanged for the past
600 years, making it one of the most attractive cities in Europe. Today's
Tallinn is also a thoroughly modern capital filled with parks, museums, sports
centers, hotels and cafés—a city certain to suit almost every traveler's tastes.
Do I have to mention the money at every port? Well, in case I haven't mentioned
it before, most of these countries accepted euros even though it wasn't their
official currency. Many cash register receipts had the totals in pounds,
euros, the countrie's currency, and some in U.S. dollars.
We were SO not feeling good by the time our pre-paid tour was to set out to
discover the City of Tallinn. Not knowing how delicate Lesley's stomach would
be, we changed our plans at took a shuttle to Old Town Tallinn. This way if
Lesley was feeling bad, we could easily return to the ship. We were lucky to
be dropped off near an open-air handcraft market and were thrilled to be able
to finally purchase some souvenirs that didn't seem like junk.
We shopped and stopped for coffee a few times and thought about lunch. Lesley
declined. I ordered something but only took a couple of bites.
On the menu: game sausages made of BEAR, WILD BOAR, and ELK! Is Lesley looking
a little green in this photo? Note the pointy, curly toed shoes on the guy in
the background.
Then it was back to our ship, the one on the right.
I think it was on this afternoon that Lesley and I joined Laura and Julie at the
Schooner Bar for the trivia session. We didn't win, but we ended up with a
respectable score.
After the game we returned to our room, read a little, and dressed for dinner.
Smart casual this night. Let's put some makeup on and throw on an extra necklace.
And we didn't forget to turn our clocks back one hour.
